All the spots for the International Food Festival have been filled!
November 17 marks World Prematurity Day!
There will be a meeting for ISC members interested in earning service hours on Friday October 24th during lunch in room 108. Members will have the opportunity to sell paper pumpkins for $2 to Lincoln students and the proceeds will go to March of Dimes, an organization that aims to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects and infant mortality. You can earn one hour for selling 10 pumpkins, two for selling 20, and three for selling 30 pumpkins. Come to the meeting on Friday to learn more about the organization and this opportunity. This is to clarify my previous posting about International Food Festival - Seniors: you need to choose from two options to fulfill your requirements to earn credit for ISC this year. These options are as follows: 1. Get involved in the International Food Festival - 22 of you have already e-mailed me - I still have 8 spots open. 2. Follow the requirements listed in the Requirements section on our website. Click on "Senior Requirements Checklist". Only those of you who are interested in earning credit by participating in the food festival need to email me (instructions are included in posting from October 15). If you rather earn your credit by fulfilling the requirements on the checklist, you do not need to let me know. Just make sure that you are adhering to the due dates listed on the checklist form. Please email me with any questions you may have!
March of Dimes needs about 15 volunteers on Tuesday, November 4th at 4:00 pm. On that day they will be putting together March for Babies Team Captain Handbooks and they need assistance. It takes about two hours and they do it at their March of Dimes offices located at 1220 SW Morrison St, Suite 510. Contact Rebecca Bell at Bell at <[email protected]> if you are interested!
We would like to invite your parents to be guest speakers in our upcoming workshops. If your parents are interested and have expertise in the following areas: global environmental factors (education, population density, freedom of speech, press behavior, etc), international trade, child labor laws, international politics, economic, global corruption, hunger, infectious diseases, or any other areas that support our vision, we would love to have them help our students better understand these global issues. We would ask them to devote 1.5 to 2 hours of their time once or twice during the entire school year. Please email me by Wednesday October 22nd if your parents are willing to help us.
I need 30 RESPONSIBLE, TRUSTWORTHY AND COMMITTED seniors to help organize our first annual ISC International Food Festival, which will take place at the end of May – beginning of June - we need to start planning NOW! Even though we have 77 seniors enrolled in this program, only 30 will be able to earn credit for it. If you are interested in leading the creation of this unique international event, e-mail me your name along with ONE WORD describing your “signature” leadership trait, by October 29th. What an enticing experience to put on your resume and your college application! The selection process will be based on the promptness of your response to this announcement and your leadership abilities, which I will be assessing during our initial meeting.
So what are the program requirements for seniors you may ask? If you are not selected or choose not to participate in this event, adhere to the program requirements posted in the “Requirements” section on this website. Your first assignment is due November 3rd! If you become an active part of the team leading this event, your efficiency and commitment to this event will earn you the required credit. Our initial meeting will take place on Thursday, November 20th, during FLEX, in room 108. Feel free to email me or see me in room 108 prior to the meeting if you have any questions. I look forward to meeting each one of you! Remember that one of the changes we have implemented this year is that you no longer will be earning a grade for this program. You must earn 80 points to receive a credit, not a grade, for this program. The ISC checklist reflects this change. E-mail me if you have any questions.
